What type of german doctors are allowed to prescribe cannabis?
Every general practitioner and specialist may prescribe dried cannabis flowers and extracts as well as certain pharmaceutical products with the active substances dronabinol and nabilone. The health insurance companies covers the costs of the therapy under certain conditions.
Medical cannabis - How to get it?
The German Medical Cannabis Legalization Act “Gesetz zur Änderung betäubungsmittelrechtlicher und anderer Vorschriften” does not provide for any restrictions on disease. Medical cannabis can be prescribed by doctors for any medical condition, but is usually prescribed as a therapy for serious diseases if there is no alternative therapy.
How is Medical Cannabis prescribed?
A doctor or health care professional will need to issue a prescription, with a maximum of 100g within 30 days. Due to the easier handling, the maximum amount was determined independently of the content of individual cannabinoids in the respective cannabis variety. In addition to the quantity, the cannabis variety must also be specified, several varieties can be written down in the recipe at the same time.
What conditions must be met for cannabis medicines to be paid by the health insurance?
It can be prescribed if for the patients qualified condition, if a recognized pharmaceutical service or product is not available or in the individual case, and after the doctors assessment under consideration of side effects and severness of illness is not being applied by the medical professional, and there is a plausible and realistic perspective for a positive result of the cannabis treatment.
